BATON ROUGE, LA – The LSU Division of Computer Science and Engineering recently honored alumnus Mohit “Mo” Vij with its 2024 Hall of Distinction Eye of the Tiger Innovator Award for his “visionary leadership, groundbreaking innovation, and enduring contributions to the field of computer science and engineering.” It was also noted that his achievements embody the “strength, resilience, and excellence of LSU’s Tiger Spirit.”

Vij is the president, CEO, and engineer at 365Labs, a company he founded that builds software and processes to modernize public safety, criminal justice, and first responders. He also holds two master’s degrees from LSU in industrial and systems engineering and systems and computer science. As part of the award presentation, Vij delivered a talk about his career and the lessons he’s learned along the way titled, “The Seven-Mile Journey,” before taking questions from the audience. The title of his talk derives from the fact that Vij has traveled the world and, in the end, now runs a company located seven miles from LSU’s campus.

“I am grateful for this honor,” Vij said. “It was heartwarming to come back and meet the new Chair [Ibrahim “Abe” Baggili], students, and the faculty. They are taking a very focused approach towards applying AI to cybersecurity. It’s an exciting time to do computer science at LSU.”

After graduating from LSU, Vij founded and grew General Informatics, a local technology company where he served as president and CEO for more than 20 years. Since its inception, the company has grown to service clients and offices in seven states and been named “Best in Nation” by Microsoft from a pool of 6,000 IT companies. In 2020, he founded 365Labs, which was named one of Inc. Magazine’s 20 Fastest Growing Companies in 2022 and this year, was named Baton Rouge’s Company of the Year. Today, its products are being used by public safety agencies in 18 states.

Vij has received numerous accolades over the course of his career, including being named a “Champion of Louisiana” by the Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Corporation; “Your Business Person of the Year” and “Top 40 Under 40” by the Baton Rouge Business Report; and a finalist for “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst & Young.

“Mo embodies the qualities every LSU student should strive for: leadership, innovation, and a deep love for our state,” Baggili said. “His groundbreaking contributions to public safety through computing have been invaluable, positively impacting thousands of lives. Mo is the epitome of what it means to be a true Tiger, and just like LSU, he builds teams that win!”
