Faculty Spotlight: Rebecca Hirschhorn
Rebecca Hirschhorn, PhD, joins the LSU School of Kinesiology as a faculty member in the Athletic Training program.
When did you start teaching at LSU and what will you be teaching this semester?
I'll be joining LSU's athletic training faculty in June and teaching Emergency Medicine
for the Athletic Trainer.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy getting to work with faculty, staff, and students from so many different backgrounds.
It's also very rewarding to know that the skills our students learn in class today
will help them provide high-quality healthcare for others.
Can you tell us a little about your research and what led you to your field of study?
My research focuses on the epidemiology and management of exertional heat illnesses
in the prehospital setting and emergency medical services utilization. My research
leverages my clinical backgrounds in athletic training and EMS.
Could you list some accolades or achievements you're most proud of?
A recent achievement I'm really proud of is being selected to serve on the new Athletic
Training and Public Health Task Force. I'm also really proud of receiving the Department
of Exercise Science Outstanding Doctoral Student Achievement Award in the last year
of my PhD at the University of South Carolina.
What advice do you have for current students or what is some of the best advice you've
ever received?
Stay curious and never stop learning. For students in healthcare fields, also remember
that your patients are trusting you to take care of them and parents are trusting
you to take care of their children.
When you're not working, what do you like to do?
Reading a good book or doing something outdoors with my dog, Callie.

- LSU Kinesiology Director Nauright Pushing Boundaries of Doping ResearchSchool of Kinesiology Director and Karen Wax Schmitt and Family Endowed Professor John Nauright presented and led the feature session on The Enhanced Games at the International Network of Doping Research Conference on August 15-16. The theme of the conference was "Pushing Boundaries in Enhancement." He presented his work Beyond Scapegoats: Money, Doping and the Myth of the Level Playing Field in Sports, which explored the cases of Romanian gymnast Andrea Raducan, Russian ice skater Kamila Valieva, and recent discussions about Chinese swimmers.
