BATON ROUGE - Academic counselor Erin D. Peck recently received the LSU Foundation’s Outstanding Staff Service Award for 2022. This is an annual award established to recognize the superior work performance and outstanding contributions of full-time, non-academic staff employees of the LSU flagship campus and the LSU AgCenter. Peck is about to go into her seventh year being an academic counselor in the LSU College of Science, helping our students reach their ultimate goal of graduation.

“My favorite part of my job is watching my students cross the stage at graduation,” said Peck. “I have worked with a lot of students over the last six years and seeing them be successful and meet their goals is a win for me too.”

Peck was nominated for this award by her supervisor and Assistant Dean of Student Services for the LSU College of Science, Kathryn Triche Loveless. 

“I nominated Erin for the 2022 Outstanding Staff Award because she deserves to be recognized,” said Loveless. “Over the years, she has demonstrated her commitment to our community. She is creative, shares ideas, and helps find solutions in difficult situations. She works diligently to make sure students get the most accurate and high quality advising. She also works to improve efficiency in all her responsibilities, making multi-step processes more efficient.”

Loveless also commented on the value of Peck’s experience working with diverse populations and those in mental health crises as students are still adjusting to life after the pandemic. 

“While she does not practice in a therapeutic relationship with students, she is able to develop a rapport with students, identify red flags, and connect them to appropriate resources,” explained Loveless.

Erin is not only respected by her colleagues in College of Science Dean’s Office but also by colleagues across campus. One noted, “Any time I need help with anything, she never hesitates to assist and put her best effort forward, no matter what the situation at hand is.” She has also been described as the “glue” in the student services office. She maintains an open door for questions or support. Another colleague noted “her humor makes coming to work enjoyable for everyone.”

“I, along with my colleagues in Student Services, work hard every day to help our students reach their goals. I am thankful to have a supervisor that recognizes my work and proud to bring attention to our amazing College,” said Peck. “Our Student Services office is like a little family and this award is a testament to all our hard work. I would not be able to be successful without each of them having my back.”
