LSU School of Social Work's MSW Program Receives National Accreditation
December 8, 2020
BATON ROUGE - The Master of Social Work (MSW) program, of the LSU School of Social Work received accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education, or CSWE, valid through October 2028.
“This is an important milestone for our MSW program,” Director of the School of Social Work Pam Monroe said. “Reaccreditation from CSWE reinforces the rigor and sustainability of our program and displays our commitment to excellence within the field. Our faculty and staff have done a wonderful job - the reaccreditation of this program was well-earned.”
The Council on Social Work Education’s Commission on Accreditation reaffirmed the MSW Program’s accreditation at its October 2020 meeting. CSWE’s Commission on Accreditation is responsible for developing standards and ensuring programs are in accordance with them. As of their October 2020 meeting, 291 master’s programs are accredited.
CSWE standards are rigorous, nationally-recognized standards that were developed to ensure excellence. Social work programs in good standing must apply for accreditation once every eight years.
The three-year preparation for accreditation this cycle was undertaken by the following people: Denise Chiasson, associate director and director of student services; Wesley Church, PhD, former director; Traci Lilley, associate director and director of field education; Elaine M. Maccio, PhD, MSW program director and associate professor; Pamela Monroe, PhD, director of the school of social work; and Lois Canulette & W.A. “Buster” Baker Alumni Professor.
We are proud of all faculty and staff who were instrumental in the accreditation of our program. We truly appreciate their commitment to excellence in social work accreditation and commend our MSW program for its accreditation through October 2028.
LSU currently has two options for the MSW – face-to-face, enrolling 120 students, and online, enrolling 724 students. The LSU Online MSW is consistently ranked top ten in the nation for best, most affordable, and best value.
