LSU School of Social Work Assistant Professor Jennifer Scott awarded grant for reducing disparities in disaster-related mental health burden
LSU School of Social Work Assistant Professor Jennifer Scott was awarded a grant of $999,992 by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to adapt, deliver, and assess the efficacy of a brief group mental health intervention in East Baton Rouge Parish organizations.
Scott's project will implement a Community-Based Participatory Research study in partnership with a broad-based community organization, Together Baton Rouge, that focuses on reducing disparities in disaster-related mental health burden and building community-based response.
The project team consists of Jennifer Scott, LSU School of Social Work, Tara Powell, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and Khalid Hudson, Together Baton Rouge.
The team plans to adapt, deliver, and assess the efficacy of a brief group mental health intervention delivered by trained community facilitators in congregations and organizations throughout East Baton Rouge Parish.
