LSU Baseball Wins 6-2 vs Missouri To Claim Series | Highlights
Left-hander Griffin Herring worked five scoreless innings in relief Sunday as LSU posted a 6-2 win over Missouri in Taylor Stadium.LSU improved to 25-16 overall and 5-13 in the SEC, while Missouri dropped to 18-23 overall and 6-12 in conference play.The Tigers return to action at 6:30 p.m. CT Tuesday when they play host to Nicholls in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. The game will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network and streamed on SEC Network +.Herring (3-0) entered the game to start the bottom of the fifth inning with the scored tied 2-2, and he blanked Missouri the rest of the way, allowing just one hit with one walk and eight strikeouts.Centerfielder Paxton Kling and shortstop Michael Braswell III each drove in two runs to highlight LSU’s offensive effort.“I’m proud of our team,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “We didn’t get off to a great start, but they stayed with it and played with great competitive character. Griffin’s performance on the back end of the game was outstanding. - 4:03LSU Softball Shuts Out Jackson State in Regional Game | HighlightsPitcher Raelin Chaffin threw her third shutout behind seven season-high strikeouts as No. 10 LSU defeated Jackson State 5-0 Friday afternoon at Tiger Park.“I think it was a solid win,” said Head Coach Beth Torina. “It was everything we needed to do to move on to the next day. Of course, there are things we could do better, but this time of year, you take the win and move on to the next. We’re lucky we had Raelin [Chaffin] throw a great game on the mound today. Just never a doubt, never a moment where I felt it got away from her. We executed the plan today, did what we needed, and are moving on.”This season, LSU is 41-15, and Jackson State falls to 33-18. LSU will face Southern Illinois at noon CT on Saturday. SIU defeated No. 21 Cal, 5-4, in the Baton Rouge Regional opening game.Chaffin (11-5) earned the win, pitching her 10th complete game of her career. The hurler tied her season-high with seven strikeouts and allowed three walks and two hits. Ole Miss dropped to 27-27 overall and 11-18 in league games.LSU and Ole Miss, who have both qualified for next week’s SEC Tournament, will conclude the series at 1 p.m. CT Saturday in the final regular season game of the year in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.Saturday’s contest will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network, and it will be streamed on SEC Network +.Holman (8-3) allowed just two runs on five hits in 6.2 innings with no walks and nine strikeouts.
