LSU right-hander Luke Holman worked 5.2 innings Saturday to earn his seventh win over the season, as the Tigers posted a 6-3 victory over Alabama in Sewell-Thomas Stadium.LSU improved to 33-19 overall, 10-16 in the SEC, while Alabama dropped to 31-19 overall and 11-15 in conference play. The Tigers evened the series after dropping an 8-7 decision to the Crimson Tide on Friday night.The teams conclude the series at 1 p.m. CT Sunday in a game that will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network and streamed on SEC Network +.Holman (7-3), who pitched at Alabama for two seasons (2022-23) before transferring to LSU last summer, limited the Crimson Tide to two runs on four hits in 5.2 innings with four walks and two strikeouts.“Luke is a superstar,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “There’s not a more put-together pitcher and person in college baseball than him. His make-up is off the charts, and he’s going to play for a long time. A lot of that has to do with his poise and his mindset. I’m really, really proud of Luke today.”Relievers Nate Ackenhausen and Gavin Guidry combined to work the final 3.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. LSU upset No. 1 seed Tennessee 2-1 Thursday night at Jane B. Moore Field behind a gem from pitchers Kelley Lynch and Sydney Berzon after a seven-hour weather delay. For the first time since 2017, LSU will advance to the semifinals of the 2024 SEC Tournament.LSU moves to 40-14 this season, while Tennessee drops to 40-10. The Tigers have reached 40 or more wins in a single season nine times under Head Coach Beth Torina and have done so in two consecutive seasons.Utility pitcher Kelley Lynch dazzled in the circle for 4.2 innings as she moved to 8-2 after fanning five batters. Lynch allowed one run on five hits with three walks as the starter.Berzon came in relief to record the last out of the fifth inning and ultimately finished with three strikeouts. She allowed one hit to secure her fourth save of the season after tossing 2.1 innings. Shortstop Taylor Pleasants hit a run-scoring single in the 14th inning, and pitcher Sydney Berzon set an SEC Tournament single-game record in innings pitched as LSU walked off Alabama, 3-2 to open the 2024 SEC Tournament Wednesday at Jane B. Moore Field.In the 14th inning, with the score tied 2-2, designated player Sierra Daniel hit a leadoff single to center field, and outfielder Ciara Briggs followed with a single to left field. First baseman Raeleen Gutierrez hit another single to center field to load the bases with one out, in which Pleasants stepped to the plate and laced a ball to the center field wall to plate the game-winning run. Pleasants now has three walk-off hits this season.“Our team was in this game,” said Head Coach Beth Torina. “We were going to be hard to beat no matter how long we stayed out there. Our dugout, bench, and supporters were in this game, and though we didn’t get a break, I don’t think there was a moment where I wasn’t confident that this game wasn’t on our side.”LSU has six walk-off wins this season and holds a 5-1 record in extra-inning games. The Bayou Bengals registered the SEC Tournament’s first walk-off since 2022 (Tennessee def. Mississippi State, 1-0 in 13 innings) and LSU’s last walk-off win in the conference tournament since defeating Texas A&M, 5-4 in 2016.“I think the big thing with this team is that there has been a lot of positives, especially some moments where this team has shown they have as much fight and grit as any team in the country,” said coach Torina. “They have more walk-off wins than I can count, and that is due to their grit and toughness, which is what you want out of a team. I want them to go out and battle their opponents. Today was a great reminder of what kind of team we are, and we have done this throughout the season. Regardless of what happens tomorrow, we will go out and battle and give Tennessee a great game.”LSU has a 39-14 record and eliminated Alabama from the tournament, which is 33-17 this season.Berzon (18-7) earned the win after tossing five strikeouts in a career-high 14.0 innings of work and fired 208 pitches in the complete game victory. Berzon threw 13 consecutive shutout innings after allowing two runs in the first. LSU first baseman Jared Jones launched a two-out, two-run homer Tuesday night to erase a 5-4 deficit and lift the Tigers to a 6-5 win over Northwestern State in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.LSU improved to 32-18 on the season, while Northwestern State dropped to 19-29.The Tigers return to action at 6 p.m. CT Friday when they open a three-game SEC series versus Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The game will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network and streamed on SEC Network +.LSU trailed, 5-4, with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning when second baseman Steven Milam doubled down the right-field line. After Northwestern State reliever Caleb Bunch retired LSU first baseman Tommy White, Jones blasted a home run beyond the left-field wall – his 21st dinger of the season – to give the Tigers the lead.Right-hander Gavin Guidry (2-0) retired the side in order in the ninth, completing a fantastic relief outing.
