PPCP Graduate Students Receive Award from the American Phytopathological Society - 3/20/2015

March 2015 - The graduate students, led by Josielle Rezende, Ally Lunos and Rebecca Sweany, from the Department of Plant Pathology & Crop Physiology (PPCP) have been awarded the first Departmental Plant Pathology Experiential Award by the Office of Private Sector Relations from the American Phytopathological Society (APS). This competitive award was created in 2015 with seed funding from the Don and Judy Mathre Education Endowment and through the support of private sector companies. The purpose of this award is to enhance the awareness of business operations and potential career opportunities in institutions outside of academia. With this award, the PPCP graduate students plan to visit several companies and governmental agencies in California, following the 2015 Annual APS meeting in Pasadena, that include Seminis, Driscoll’s and the USDA. In addition, they will visit UC Riverside and Davis. This trip will allow the PPCP students to learn more about different career choices and see plant pathogens on crops uncommonly grown in Louisiana that include raspberries, blackberries, grapes, and tree nuts.
