geauxserveevent2018Baton Rouge -- In the spirit of celebrating 80+ years of social work excellence, the LSU School of Social Work faculty, staff, students, and alumni spent the day providing support to two local non-profit organizations in Baton Rouge, St. Vincent DePaul and Youth Oasis. The event, called GEAUX SERVE, consisted of over 75 volunteers from the School of Social Work’s faculty, staff, students, and alumni working on various projects at both agencies.

Dr. Wesley Church, director of the LSU School of Social Work said, “Each of these centers are always in need of support and it was exciting to see the LSU School of Social Work community come together and serve the Baton Rouge community."

Dr. Church also said that due to the success of this event the LSU School of Social Work will partner with a local non-profit on an annual basis to provide a day of service to that agency.

The LSU School of Social Work’s event committee chair, Ashleigh Borgmeyer, MSW, LMSW, also asked each agency if there were items the agencies needed, and our volunteers came through. St. Vincent DePaul and Youth Oasis can usually use clothes, toiletries, and cash donations.

The event finished up on campus with the volunteers coming together to begin to plan next year’s GEAUX SERVE.
