Faculty Spotlight: Heather Allaway
Meet Heather Allaway, PhD, a new faculty member in the School of Kinesiology's Exercise Physiology department.
When will you start teaching at LSU?
I will start teaching at LSU Fall 2021.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The best part about my job as a scientist and teacher is empowering women to feel
stronger in their own skin by teaching them about the strength of their own bodies.
Can you tell us a little about your research and what led you to your field of study?
I study gender differences in how things we modify in our lives like exercise, diet,
and use of hormonal contraception influence reproductive health. I am also interested
in the subsequent impact the changes in reproductive health have on the musculoskeletal
system and the future development of osteoporosis. I was drawn to this type of research
while growing up on a farm and seeing the cycle of life around me, and also from being
an athlete throughout my childhood.
When you're not working, what do you like to do?
When I am not working, I like getting a yoga or swimming session in and try to get
my rescue beagle mix to the dog park for a few hours every weekend. I also love traveling
and exploring parts of the world I have not been to before.
