LSU Foundation Welcomes New Board of Directors Members

The LSU Foundation Board of Directors has welcomed five new members and has named LSU Board of Supervisors Chair Robert Dampf as its Board of Supervisors representative through 2022. New LSU Foundation Board of Directors members, serving four-year terms, are Sarah Borders of Atlanta; John M. Engquist of Baton Rouge; Suzette Kent of Frisco, Texas; Christel C. Slaughter, of Baton Rouge; and Milford "Mike" Wampold III of Baton Rouge.

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Foundation Board of Directors has welcomed five new members and has named LSU Board of Supervisors Chair Robert Dampf as its Board of Supervisors representative through 2022. New LSU Foundation Board of Directors members, serving four-year terms, are Sarah Borders of Atlanta; John M. Engquist of Baton Rouge; Suzette Kent of Frisco, Texas; Christel C. Slaughter, of Baton Rouge; and Milford “Mike” Wampold III of Baton Rouge.  

“We’re proud to welcome these stellar new Board members and are grateful for their willingness to share their experience and expertise with LSU in a new capacity,” said Board Chairperson Clarence Cazalot Jr. “Each brings a unique skillset and perspective and a shared belief in the transformative power of an LSU education to improve lives worldwide.” 

Sarah BordersAbout Sarah Borders
Sarah Borders of Atlanta earned a bachelor’s degree in business from LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business in 1984. She also holds a legal degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. Borders is a partner with King & Spalding, for which she has led both the financial restructuring and real estate practice groups. Her practice spans infrastructure, real estate, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, restaurant, hospitality and transportation, among other industries. She is a former law clerk for the late Judge Henry A. Politz of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and a Fellow and former regent of the American College of Bankruptcy.

Borders has been recognized as a leading restructuring lawyer by Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America, Who’s Who in Restructuring and Insolvency, Law Dragon and The Deal and is a member of the Homer W. Drake Inn of Court. She serves on the Ourso College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council and on the Board of Trustees for the University of Virginia School of Law’s Law School Foundation. She is active in the Atlanta community, including through service as a member of Leadership Atlanta and on the board of directors of BrandBank Holding Corporation, Action Ministries, Inc., the Woodruff Arts Center Alliance Theatre and Georgia Women of Achievement.

 

John M. EngquistAbout John M. Engquist
John M. Engquist of Baton Rouge is executive chairman of the board of H&E Equipment Services Inc., a position to which he was appointed on Jan. 1, 2019. Previously, Engquist had served as chief executive officer and director of the company since its formation in September 2005 and was president from that time until November 2012. He served as president, CEO and director of H&E LLC from its formation in June 2002 until its merger with and into H&E Equipment Services, Inc. in 2006. He served in executive leadership roles with predecessor companies of H&E LLC prior to 2002.

Engquist serves as a director on the boards of a number of private companies, including Mohawk Industries, Inc., based in Calhoun, Georgia. He is on the Leadership Council of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and serves on the Board of Directors and Finance Committee of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, based in Baton Rouge.

 

Suzette KentAbout Suzette Kent
Suzette Kent of Frisco, Texas, earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism, now part of LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication, in 1990. She is a global business transformation executive and, most recently, served as the federal chief information officer for the United States within the Office of Management and Budget. Appointed by President Donald Trump in January 2018, Kent was the fourth person and first woman to serve in this role. Kent’s career has included leadership roles ranging from partner at Accenture and EY, to president of consulting at a Career Corporation, to managing director at JP Morgan. She has worked with clients around the world, across industries and in the public and private sectors.  

Kent has actively supported LSU initiatives throughout her career. She is particularly focused on opportunities to strengthen industry partnerships and programs that support students and faculty in building the future workforce for Louisiana and the nation.

 

Christel C. SlaughterAbout Christel C. Slaughter
Christel C. Slaughter, Ph.D., of Baton Rouge earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from LSU’s Ourso College in 1975 and a doctoral degree in systems management and organizational design in 1979. She was inducted into the college’s Hall of Distinction in 2010 and is a former adjunct professor for the Flores MBA Program. As the CEO of SSA Consultants, she has led corporate and organizational transformations involving strategy, growth, cultural change and performance improvement and has served as the principal investigator on hundreds of projects. Slaughter joined SSA Consultants, now a woman‐owned management consulting and organizational development firm, in 1983 and has been instrumental in guiding the growth and diversification of the firm’s client base and service offerings. In 2017, SSA was recognized by the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry as the Workforce Innovator of the Year.

Slaughter serves on the Board of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and is chair of the U.S. Chamber Small Business Council. She was the first woman chair of the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce in 1986 and currently serves on the Louisiana Association of Business & Industry Board of Directors and Executive Committee. She is past chair of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and the New Orleans Branch Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank and served as interim president of the Our Lady of the Lake Foundation for one year. She was a torchbearer for the 1996 Summer Olympic Torch Run and was awarded the 2009 Brotherhood Sisterhood Award of Greater Baton Rouge. Dr. Slaughter currently serves on the boards of Woman’s Hospital, the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University, the Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System Foundation.

 

Milford “Mike” Wampold IIIAbout Milford “Mike” Wampold III
Milford “Mike” Wampold III of Baton Rouge earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies from LSU’s General College in 1976. He holds the Certified Commercial Investment Member designation from the Commercial Real Estate Investment Institute. As chairman and CEO of Wampold Companies, which he founded and owns, Wampold is directly responsible for the direction and growth of the company. He oversees strategic corporate planning, corporate financing and new project development. He has been involved in the development, construction, renovation, ownership and management of real estate holdings for over 30 years. Notable Baton Rouge development projects include Shaw Plaza (currently Aptim) office building, Crescent at University Lake Condominiums, Bayonne at Southshore apartments, I & II City Plaza office buildings and the Renaissance and Watermark Hotels. He has also developed projects throughout Louisiana, Texas and Florida. 

Wampold is a member and former director of numerous industry and civic organizations and has served on many boards, including for the Baton Rouge Business Bank, LSU Tiger Athletic Foundation, Baton Rouge Good Growth Coalition, BREC Foundation, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Make a Wish Foundation and Woman’s Hospital.
