Dr. Petra A. Robinson Presents at the AABHE Conference
Funded in part by the LSU Office of Diversity Faculty Travel Grant, School of Leadership and Human Resource Development faculty member Dr. Petra A. Robinson attended and presented her research at the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education (AABHE) Conference.The conference is one Dr. Robinson has attended and presented research at consistently for the past 5 or so years. This year's conference was particularly meaningful as it was held in LSU's home state; at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel on Canal Street in New Orleans, LA. Additionally, the aptly themed conference theme Pathways to Success in Higher Education: Education, the Ultimate Civil Right was a resounding success under the leadership of its president, LSU'S very own, Vice Provost for Diversity and Chief Diversity Officer, Dr. Dereck Rovaris.The AABHE strives to be the premier organization to drive leadership development, access and vital issues concerning Blacks in higher education. In pursuing this vision, AABHE seeks to collaborate with other ethnic groups and organizations that have similar interests.While appreciative of the opportunity to present her research findings of a qualitative study she did with women of color to learn more about their insights and perceptions of how women of color are viewed in the media and their resulting reactions to contemporary labels and identifiers, Dr. Robinson was most pleased about seeing LSU students, including two of her own mentees, PhD candidate, Dorothy Kemp (SLHRD) and doctoral student, Bettina Teegen (School of Social Work) present their work at the conference.The School of Leadership is proud to highlight Dr. Robinson's diverse scholarship and her mentorship of students in our department and across the campus.
