BATON ROUGE, LA - Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation named Jen Scott, PhD, to their statewide Health Fellows Program. The program works collectively to improve the health and life outcomes of people throughout the state of Louisiana. As a BCBSLA Foundation Health Fellow, Scott's research and leadership will contribue to improving quality of life for citizens across the state.

Scott is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at Louisiana State University. Her research focuses on the social determinants of health. Specifically, how the social factors like economic access to economic resources (i.e. work, non-cash economic support) and immigration status (particularly legal status) affect individual, family and community wellbeing. Scott is a mixed methods researcher, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches as well as conducting investigations that employ a single approach. She speaks Spanish and has been working with the immigrant, in particular the Latino immigrant, community in the United States for more than a decade.

Scott currently teaches social policy courses in the School of Social Work and developed and is the Coordinator for the School’s new Graduate Specialization in Policy and Macro Practice. Her current primary project examines the interrelationship between the health of the workforce (both permanent and temporary immigrant) and employment conditions in the specific socioenvironmental context of coastal Louisiana in effort to inform policy and interventions that advance health equity for workers and the coastal communities in which they reside.
