- LSU Researcher Awarded $800K to Study Links Between Substance Misuse and Experiences with RacismLSU Professor of Psychology Julia Buckner has received two separate awards from the National Institutes of Health--over $800,000 from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and the National Institute on Drug Abuse--to study the direct links between daily experiences with racism, including microaggressions, and alcohol and cannabis use and potential problems that result from use.

- LSU Awarded $780K from National Academies to Help Louisiana Tribe Protect Coastal LandLouisiana Sea Grant at LSU has received $780,000 from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Gulf Research Program to continue its work with the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe to protect coastal land in lower Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes using nature-based solutions.
- LSU Awards 1,931 Degrees During Fall Commencement CeremoniesLSU awarded 1,931 degrees during the university's 312th commencement exercises Friday, Dec. 15. These new LSU alumni and their hometowns can be viewed on the LSU Graduates List on the LSU Commencement website. 1,313 students earned undergraduate degrees or certificates and 618 received graduate degrees or certificates. Twenty-three LSU employees were among the graduates.

- LSU Petroleum, Mechanical Engineering Professors Developing Leakage Sensor for CCS Sites, CO2 PipelinesCarbon capture and storage (CCS) is a way of reducing carbon emissions by capturing the carbon dioxide (CO2) produced by power generation or industrial activity; compressing and transporting it via pipelines, trucks, or ships; and then storing it deep underground in geological formations, such as saline aquifers or depleted oil and gas reservoirs. While CCS has proven to be mostly safe, there is always a chance of leakage.
- Fall 2023 Rucks Fellows AnnouncedThe Rucks Department of Management at the E. J. Ourso College of Business acknowledges outstanding students as Rucks Fellows. These students are chosen by the faculty and represent the highest level of academic achievement among senior management majors in any of the department's concentrations. - LSU Professor Investigating Connections Between Religious Attendance, Health in Older Mexican AmericansWith support from a $30,000 grant from the Louisville Institute, LSU Professor of Sociology Sam Stroope, along with collaborators Rhiannon Kroeger and Samantha Ramey, are researching the effects of aging on religious involvement among Mexican Americans. In a newly published article in the Journal of Aging and Health, the researchers show an earlier decline in religious service attendance in older Mexican Americans compared to white Americans.

- LSU Innovation Wins $600,000 Federal Grant to Help Technology EntrepreneursLSU has been awarded a $600,000 U.S. Economic Development Administration grant to boost technology entrepreneurship in the Capital Region. The Baton Rouge Initiative for Development, Growth and Entrepreneurship, or BRIDGE, program will use the EDA funding to support entrepreneurs and their startups through technical support, a mentorship program with local mentors and executives-in-residence based on an analysis of their needs.
